A Boy's Dream
When I was a boy, my Dad gave me a book that became one of my favorites. It was the “The Wonder Book of Aircraft” published in 1919. It basically described the state of the art for aircraft from that era and how the planes and dirigibles were used in the first world war. The book was filled with a combination of old grainy photographs of biplanes and dirigible balloons, sketches of early flying machines from the 1700’s and 1800’s, war scenes involving the aircraft, humorous sketches of airplanes and text. The old photographs and drawings were fascinating. In these photographs I tried to recreate my childhood dream of having the flying machines whizzing through, and hovering in the rooms of my home and having the cartoon characters acting out in my living space.
