The Gnomes of Port Moody Is a joint project between myself and artist Michel LeBlanc. It documents the transition of gnomes from living in the forest to participating actively in the Port Moody community.
A Boy's Dream transposes the illustrations of ancient flying machines from my favourite childhood book into scenes in my condo.
Bookworms 2.0 documents the life of those tiny, shy creatures that live in antique books, read the stories and build "things" that relate to the story.
In Old Shacks - New Context I have photographed the ramshackle cabins in Finn Slough in Richmond, BC and put them in a new context - the inside of my condo. This allows the shacks to be appreciated as very unique sculptural objects.
INDIVIDUAL PHOTOS
are some interesting photos not part of a portfolio.
GIVE AWAY SHOWS
Give Away shows were exhibits held at a local Cafe / Gallery where I gave away the photographs at the end of the show. Potential recipients had to write down why they liked an image and why they wanted to take it home. I gave the photograph to the person with the most interesting / moving write up.
OLDER WORK
The Protesters documents the face of the protest movement against the trans mountain pipeline expansion.
In Appropriated Art I have extracted certain sections of classical paintings and blended them into compatible spaces in my house. This is my way of “collecting” the art and making it my own. I also like the clash of the old Master’s images with the interior of a modern house.
Animals imagines what would happen if a child’s toy animals came to life and built homes, played or grazed in the interior of a house.
The Bookworms photographs capture the constructions built by bookworms, those tiny shy creatures who read children’s books and then build contraptions to help the characters in the story. For example, if a character in a story is lost at sea the bookworms will build a dock and a rope to help them reach land. This portfolio documents all the structures the bookworms built to help the people in the stories.
Google Art was a two-year project of sifting through Street View images all around the world looking for artful images amongst all the mundane images captured by the Google cameras. I was looking for formally beautiful images that could stand on their own as works of art.
Basements is a pre digital project where I used a 4 x 5 camera to document the dirtiest, grimiest basements I could find. It started off in our 1914’s house basement and progressed to historical public buildings such as Winnipeg’s old Play House theatre and the CPR station. It was my MFA thesis project.
In the Cactus Series I photographed a cactus over a three-year period and documented some of its attempts to be more than a cactus.
Backyards, also a pre digital show, looks for the beauty in Winnipeg’s backyards and Manitoba’s many country fairs. In this project people aren’t revealed as personalities but more as objects that contributed to a formal balanced composition.
